  1. Organizations and individuals doing business in tourist accommodation services are allowed to voluntarily register for accommodation establishment classification with competent state agencies;
  2. Hotels, villas, apartments, and cruise ships are ranked according to national standards for ranking tourist accommodation establishments including 1 star, 2 stars, 3 stars, 4 stars, and 5 stars;
  3. The sign certifying the tourist accommodation establishment’s class is attached at the main entrance of the tourist accommodation establishment.

Procedures for applying for a certificate of classification of accommodation establishments 

After completing the procedures for establishing an accommodation business, organizations/individuals can register for recognition of the tourist accommodation establishment class with the following 3 steps:

➤ Step 1: Prepare relevant documents and papers

Application for star rating for accommodation establishments (hotels, motels) includes:

  1. Application for recognition of accommodation establishment class;
  2. List of managers and staff at the accommodation facility;

  • Submit by post (VNPost service);
  • Submit online at the Online Public Service Portal.

  • The General Department of Tourism assesses and recognizes 4-star and 5-star tourist accommodation establishments;
  • The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism assesses and recognizes 1-star, 2-star and 3-star tourist accommodation establishments.

➤ Step 3: Wait for the assessment results and recognition of the tourism establishment’s class

  • Within 3 working days from the date of receipt of the application, the competent authority will notify in writing and clearly state the request for amendments and supplements if the application is invalid;
  • Within 30 working days from the date of receipt of valid documents, the competent authorities (**) will coordinate and issue a decision to recognize the tourist accommodation establishment’s class.

(**) At this stage, the General Department of Tourism or the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will coordinate with social and professional organizations on tourism to make a decision.

Note:

The decision to recognize the accommodation establishment’s class is valid for 5 years. After the expiration date, if the accommodation service business establishment wishes to re-register, it must follow the same procedure as the first registration.

  • Has interior and exterior designed, arranged and decorated reasonably;

Note:

  • For 4-star and 5-star accommodation establishments, there must be sleeping rooms for disabled people using wheelchairs or strollers;
