Subjects participating in voluntary social insurance (VSI)
According to the Law on Social Insurance 2014, voluntary social insurance participants must meet two conditions:
- Vietnamese citizens from 15 years of age and older;
- Not subject to compulsory social insurance.

1. Voluntary social insurance regimes
According to Clause 2, Article 4 of the Law on Voluntary Social Insurance, voluntary social insurance has two regimes: retirement and death, specifically:
- Receive monthly pension;
- Get medical examination and treatment with health insurance;
- Receive one-time social insurance benefits;
- Receive funeral allowance and one-time death benefit.

2. Method of paying voluntary social insurance
Voluntary social insurance participants can choose 1 of 6 payment methods as follows:
- Close monthly;
- Pay every 3 months;
- Pay every 6 months;
- Pay every 12 months;
- Pay once for many years to come but not more than 5 years/time;
- Pay one time for the missing years for those who are old enough to receive pension but the missing payment period is not more than 10 years.
Note:
In case the voluntary social insurance participant has reached retirement age but the social insurance contribution period is less than 10 years, he/she will continue to pay according to 1 of the 5 methods above. After that additional payment period, if the contribution period is still less than 10 years, he/she will apply method 6 to pay one time for the missing years.

2. How to pay voluntary social insurance online at home
There are 2 ways to pay voluntary social insurance online:
- Method 1: Submit at the National Public Service Portal;
- Method 2: Submit at the Vietnam Social Security Electronic Information Portal.

2.1. Submit voluntary social insurance online on the National Public Service Portal
➧ Step 1: Access the National Public Service Portal >> Select “Login”;
You can choose 1 of 3 types of accounts to log in:
- Account issued by National Public Service Portal;
- Electronic identification account issued by the Ministry of Public Security (VNeID);
- Account issued by Vietnam Post.
➧ Step 2: Select “Online payment” >> Select “Pay voluntary social insurance and family health insurance” >> Click “Continue paying voluntary social insurance”;
➧ Step 3: Fill in the social insurance number, security code and select “Search”;
The system will return the result as illustrated below, you select “Payment”;
➧ Step 4: At the payment interface, you choose a bank or e-wallet to make the transaction >> Click “Pay” to complete the procedure.
2.1. Submit voluntary social insurance online on the Vietnam Social Insurance Electronic Information Portal
➧ Step 1: Access the Vietnam Social Security Public Service Portal >> Select “Login”;
➧ Step 2: Select “Close electronic social insurance”;
