What is the social insurance unit code?

The social insurance unit code (social insurance participation unit code) is a series of numbers issued to organizations and units participating in social insurance. Through this unit code, the social insurance agency can easily manage and monitor the participation and payment of social insurance premiums of enterprises. 

According to Decree 01/2021/ND-CP, the social insurance unit code is also the enterprise code and tax code of the unit. However, in reality, the social insurance agency has not yet applied this regulation and the enterprise still needs to carry out the procedure to request a social insurance unit code for the enterprise with the insurance agency.

Regulations on deadline for submitting application for social insurance unit code

The registration for the issuance of a social insurance unit code is carried out when the enterprise carries out the procedure to participate in social insurance for the first time. Thus, the regulation on the deadline for submitting the application for the issuance of a social insurance unit code is also the deadline for registering to participate in social insurance for the first time for the enterprise.

Accordingly, within 30 days from the date of completion of the employment contract, labor contract, the enterprise must submit the application for registration of the social insurance unit code according to regulations.

➨ After completing the application according to the instructions above, you submit it to the district-level insurance agency where the company is headquartered in one of the following two ways:

• Method 1: Submit application directly to social insurance agency;
• Method 2: Submit application for social insurance unit code online on electronic social insurance declaration software (using the enterprise’s digital signature for authentication) or at the Vietnam Social Insurance Electronic Information Portal.

Note: Depending on the requirements of each agency, after registering for an online social insurance unit code on the social insurance declaration support software, you may need to submit additional paper documents. 

➨ Within a maximum of 7 working days, the Social Insurance agency will check the validity of the application and issue a Social Insurance unit code to the business. In fact, the speed of processing the application by the insurance agency is usually quite fast, taking only about 1-2 working days.

After being granted a social insurance unit code, the enterprise can proceed to report an increase or decrease in labor, complete the first social insurance registration procedure, and ensure the obligation to pay social insurance according to regulations.
